Virginia Beach "Open House"
The open house in Virginia Beach was a smash! I suppose most of you are wondering what am I talking about? Well, AIHT held it's first "Convention" at the Ramada Inn, Virginia Beach on Saturday evening, September 11, 1999. Most of you are asking yourself, why you were not invited. Simply because this was a spur of the moment experimental decision, and we only had time to contact students and graduates from nearby areas. This was more or less a field test, and it was extremely successful, with close to forty students present.
How did this all come about? Dr. Irene Spears, my wife Laura, and myself were invited to attend a hypnotherapy conference in Virginia Beach, and at the last minute we decided to merge this with an AIHT Open House.
Irene and Fran Ward (Adjunct Professor) worked all day to transform our meeting room into a virtual fantasy land. There were balloons, sparkles, coffee mug favors and pens, all beautifully wrapped, and of course everything in school colors.
First on the agenda was registration, followed by a half an hour of refreshments and a chance to get acquainted, then dinner. After dinner, Dr. Spears kicked off the meeting by giving accolades to Dr. Fran Ward and Dr. Josephine Johnsey, two of our adjuncts. Then came the frightening part of the evening, when Dr. Spears introduced yours truly. I was taken by surprise with a standing ovation I caught from the corner of my eye as I gave Dr. Spears a hug before approaching the podium. I assumed the ovation was for the very warm and heart felt introduction I received from her. She claimed it was for me. However, it was a resounding welcome. Let's say it was for the both of us.
My address was given on the history of the school, and how the idea of it came to me in a dream that recurred on three different occasions, then how I was guided to a physical geographic area in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee where the dream unfolded into reality. Even the scenery was exactly as it was shown in the dream. It is here that AIHT became what you see today. My message that evening was much more in detail, but basically the aforementioned story is it in a nutshell.
After the address, there was a drawing and some AIHT goodies were given away. Then we adjourned for some fellowship and a chance to meet more of the students. We had nice little chats with most of them, took pictures, and gave lots of hugs.
My hat is off to Irene and Fran for making this event a memorable evening, with hopes that it will be an annual event for the whole school. I was elated to say the least. "This could be the start of something big!"
