In case you weren't able to come to the first AIHT Open House, let me describe a little bit of it to you. It was held at a restaurant right on the beach at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Shriners were in town for a four-hour parade earlier in the day so there were revelers all around. The atmosphere was festive before we ever entered the banquet room. Inside were purple balloons, sparkly table settings, and an inviting party mood. People met each other casually. Small talk gave way quickly to conversations about subjects important to each of us. Herbs, healing, metaphysical subjects of all sorts were discussed easily and deeply. As soon as we started talking with someone, we knew we could talk and listen to that person for hours. That was the case with each person and with each exchange. The dinner hour came, and we enjoyed some great food and more camaraderie at our tables. We were introduced to Dr. Yozwick, Irene Spears, and Josephene Johnsey -- names familiar to us could finally have a face attached to them. Dr. Y. greeted everyone with a history of the school and a reminder that everyone in the room (and at AIHT) is a good person with good intentions. As we spoke with more and more people, we knew that was true. The evening program passed too quickly. There were door prizes -- all with an AIHT insignia -- and everyone won. Maybe not a door prize, but definitely a feeling of confirmation that we had all chosen the right educational institution. So many times that night I heard people say, "It's wonderful to be together with people of like minds!" There were definitely like minds. Even better, there were like hearts.
