Sonia Choquette, Ph.D., says
Trust Your Vibes

by Mary Grace McCord

International psychic, best-selling author and AIHT graduate Sonia Choquette has always kept good company. At age 12, following in her mother’s psychic footsteps and after an intensive mentorship with Trenton Tully, Sonia was giving psychic readings to adults before she became a teenager.

Thirty-something years later, one of the renowned Omega Institute’s brightest stars devotes her professional life to raising humanity’s collective vibration. Her innate psychic wisdom has taken voice in eight books. While traveling the lecture circuit she quickly became a media go-to person for psychic commentary, an icon of intuition whose media reach spans the globe. But her most rewarding influences are right at home: Sonia and her husband, Patrick, are passing this higher wisdom to a third generation by raising two teenage psychics of their own.

On the road, Sonia Choquette also enjoys co-teaching with fellow pioneers of soul expansion, including medical intuitive Caroline Myss, psychologist Wayne Dyer, and metaphysicians Louise Hay and Neale Donald Walsch—each of whom seeks counsel with Sonia in matters of the heart.

The message in her newest book, Trust Your Vibes: 33 Secrets for Sixth Sensory Living, is that we are best served by embracing our sixth sense as our first sense. Whether you call these insights “hunches” or “feelings,” “sensations” or “vibes,” Sonia urges us to simply trust our gut. Vibrations caught up with this illustrious alumna after one of her speaking engagements with Caroline Myss and before she started her spring, 2004 book tour.

VIBRATIONS: Your books say that we all hear from our sixth sense. We can turn up its volume by learning the discipline of silent, motionless meditation, and we can strengthen our psychic signal by simply embracing such heaven-sent intuition. Are you saying that the more we believe, the more we can receive?

SONIA CHOQUETTE: It need not even be a question of belief. Researchers verify that the sixth sense does exist and is located within the heart; scientific biofeedback proves the presence of neural pathways between our brain and our heart. The more we exercise this psychic muscle, the more neural pathways we develop.

Intuition is our highest sense because it reflects most accurately what is true. I think that our spirit-driven sixth sense should officially be called “vibration” because everything that has energy has vibes. Once we perceive these heart-felt higher vibrations as true, we begin to make more informed, enlightened decisions moment by moment.

My personal mission is to help bring balance to the universe. Learning how to hear, intuitively, is both timely and urgent. Why has sixth sensory wisdom become more mainstream and more accepted? Because we need it, as brethren in the human race, to survive. We need all our wits about us! Tapping this wellspring can ease our minds, for decisions great and small. It is empowering to know that higher wisdom is guiding our way.

Hearing our sixth sense is really common sense. Why would we throw away or otherwise ignore our highest knowledge? When non-believers find the occasion to fine-tune their understanding, that’s when the question shifts, from “Is intuitive intelligence real?” to “How can my own unique and magnificent psychic gifts do their best work, for myself and for others?”

VIBRATIONS: Having a strong intuitive ability that can be of service to others may be one of the most magnificent gifts in the world. Many a time, psychics have helped to locate a missing person. Long after police stop sending search parties, when detectives and various agencies have all given up, psychic wisdom may help a distraught family member find their loved one or at least understand what happened.

SONIA CHOQUETTE: Some psychics specialize in sleuthing, which can come highly recommended when five-sensory answers fail. Be sure to choose such a specialist by word-of-mouth referral and by reputation, just as you choose a physician or lawyer. Intuitives work with integrity and we don’t blatantly market ourselves; beware of expensive advertising and flashing neon lights.

Clients must also use common sense and not think of psychic assistance as a quick fix. We can bring depth but we are not magicians and we are not armchair psychologists. We won’t eliminate another soul’s work; we can’t do everything for you. If a psychic says they can do it all for you, run!

Even under dire circumstances such as locating a missing person, if you seek psychic intervention as some type of a quick fix, be sure to stop and ask yourself why you are willing to surrender your personal truths to a stranger, for money.

VIBRATIONS: So, on the one hand are crime reporters with their own views about the psychic world. Likewise, the entertainment media may scoff or praise Laura Stinchfield, a modern-day Dr. Doolittle who claims she can “talk with the animals.”

SONIA CHOQUETTE: Throughout our psychic evolution (which means long before The Pet Psychic), people have known that we can and do communicate on non-
verbal levels. We can talk with our pets, just as we can talk with our angels and guides.

I like to say that psychics are a different breed of cat; we stay in higher consciousness at all times. Going with the flow of psychic energy takes us out of our head and into our heart—whether you’re in touch with a lost loved one or a family pet, staying plugged into Divine Wisdom can only take us higher.

In my book entitled Diary of a Psychic: Shattering the Myths is a guided tour of what psychic assistance can and can’t do. It helps seekers become informed clients.

VIBRATIONS: Your books describe angels, guides, teachers and messengers as our own personal helpers who protect us, whisper their insight, arm us with intuitive intelligence, facilitate, encourage us and generally lighten things up. We need only ask.

Unfortunately we may think we want to develop heart wisdom—and so our hard-working subconscious sends an unshakable gnawing sensation or crystal-clear dream symbolism—yet unconsciously we still may not want to “get the news” of an inevitable hardship. How do you help such a client to wake up and smell whatever it is that stinks?

SONIA CHOQUETTE: Psychics operate on vibes, from one’s present or past lives. When I detect a troublesome pattern, our goal becomes to examine it in order to deconstruct it.

First, I focus on helping them to dissolve and release any harmful present-time emotional blocks. One way to start is by saying, aloud, “I wonder what opportunities exist within this hardship?” Or, “I wonder how to turn this roadblock or detour into a scenic, unplanned and yet memorable side trip?”

Why has sixth sensory wisdom become more mainstream and more accepted? Because as brethren in the human race, we need it to survive. We need all our wits about us!

VIBRATIONS: Just vocalizing the words “I wonder” can surely help people become more open to big miracles and little inklings. So, do you mean that the miracle we may seek could be to simply accept a previously unacceptable situation and start over again?

SONIA CHOQUETTE: Simply vocalizing or affirming what we want really does help. Our friendly universe wants only the best for each of us. Trouble is, a sincere seeker can learn to reach correct conclusions and still misinterpret the time it will take to get there.

VIBRATIONS: The good news is that anybody can do mental exercises or “psychic sit-ups” that improve our intuitive ability. Would you tell us more about how your “I wonder…” intuitive exercises can help?

SONIA CHOQUETTE: This is a non-threatening way to build one’s psychic muscle. When the phone rings, before automatically checking Caller ID just ask yourself “I wonder who’s calling?” as your mind scrolls down a quick list of suspects. The “I wonder” exercises take us off of autopilot by challenging us to be present, in the now.

Don’t get frustrated when your car keys are hiding. Ask yourself “I wonder where they are?” and you’ll find that your mind is eager to calm down and start to visualize where they are. Solving these everyday mysteries builds confidence in our ability to take on the big things using intuitive super-intelligence.

Jot down your victories. Daily journaling is a great way to chart your psychic progress. If journaling is too much, just list your intuitive successes each day. If you can’t do that, at least talk about your breakthroughs. With great enthusiasm, tell a friend about your intuitive insights and how they help your life to flow more easily.

Who knows? Maybe your psychic successes will inspire many other wonderers. Each one, teach one.
