Medical Assistant

Medical Assistant & HIPAA Specialist training program

Program Detail

The Medical Assistant is a 9 month Hybrid certificate program designed to train students in basic medical assisting skills. A medical assistant is a multi-skilled professional of the healthcare team who is committed to assisting physicians and nurses in bringing patient care to an optimal level. They perform duties ranging from scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding to taking vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and drawing blood.

Program Objective

The Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare students to become skilled office subordinates who work closely with doctors, registered nurses, and other office personnel delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after hospital stays, surgical procedures and doctor’s care.

Clinical Externship

At the end of the program, the student will be scheduled for a clinical externship where he/she can gain hands-on experience in a physician’s office and hospital under the supervision and control of the AIHT, overseen by a designated site supervisor. Externships allow students to develop skills and allow them to make connections with working professionals.

AIHT has clinical affiliations with numerous healthcare facilities where students will be placed at one or more of these affiliated sites and must complete their clinical hours based on the schedule provided by the school. Students are not permitted to begin the internship until all required classroom and lab hours are completed.
